It was Arfon Gwilym's vision to establish a Welsh bookshop on the Welsh border but also sell goods to promote a Welsh identity.
The company was established in 1983, as a co-operative with 16 local people investing in the venture. It was necessary to have a number of volunteers to work in the shop and we have to note the important contribution of Millie Williams and Ciss Davies in the early years. There is an extended list of volunteers that have worked in the shop since.
Over the years the shop has become a centre for the Welsh language with learners calling in for a chat and to practice their Welsh, while others may ask for a Welsh translation of an English sentence. Also the Welsh from overseas call in regularly over the years to return to their adopted countries with souvenirs, often it's a Red Dragon flag.
The Company is run by a Chairman/Secretary, Treasurer and 3 directors. The company has 23 shareholders.
At the recent annual dinner Feb 2013 the Chairman thanked everybody for their support over 30 years. Emyr Davies read his poem to note the milestone, and it is reproduced on the right.
